Non Executive Director – Internet Industry

Bango Plc, listed on the London Stock Exchange AIM (BGO.L), is looking for a non-executive director with a strong track record of innovation and success in the internet industry to enhance the effectiveness of its Board.

Bango has built a unique position in the internet industry. Its focus is on enabling web site owners to benefit from the extra services – such as payment and identity – that are available when users browse the web from mobile devices.

This non-executive director role will involve mentoring and advising the senior executive team in evolving and implementing its strategy for driving the business forward. It also includes general oversight and corporate governance required by the Combined Code, company law and statutory responsibilities.

Bango engages frequently with much larger organizations (such as Google, Yahoo, Nokia, PayPal, Visa, Microsoft, Amdocs, RIM, Omniture/Adobe, Ericsson, Vodafone, Verizon and so on), building partnerships to address consumer needs through the mobile web. This appointment will be important in strengthening these interactions to help potential partners optimize their strategy to best benefit from a relationship with Bango and the tens of millions of customers it reaches.

The role

As a member of the Board you will establish strategic direction for the company and support the Executive team in partnering discussions, shareholder communications and M&A activity.

  • Contribute to strategic planning and structured decision-making
  • Provide constructive criticism and challenge to the executive management team
  • Present the Board with a clear view of the external environment
  • Position Bango to achieve significant value for its shareholders, customers and partners

About you – essential skills

  • Previously served on the board of a public company – either in the US or UK
  • Actively engaged in the commercial exploitation of the web
  • Previous work in the internet, mobile internet, web or money transfer sectors
  • Have well thought through insights into the future of the industry
  • Embrace open thinking and diversity, overcome blockers, enjoy experimenting
  • Experience of decision making and planning at a senior level
  • Experience of management in fast growth small to medium technology enterprises (including planning, financial control, performance management and leadership)
  • Committed to what our customers are doing and understanding their needs

You must also demonstrate strong skills in one of the following areas:

Marketing/Service delivery: qualified and experienced in delivering the requirements of internet enabled businesses in an appropriate field of service or product provision

Technology: experience in creating and deploying internet products to hundreds or thousands of customers, especially those demanding 24/7 service and exceptional value for money

Partnering Skills: proven track record in establishing mutually successful partnerships, especially between large internet / media enterprises and smaller technology providers

About you – desired skills

  • Experience of dealing with possible partner or competitor organizations, for example evaluating the "make vs buy", "NIH", "co-opetition" and "walled garden" challenges
  • Experience with organizations delivering content and services to large volumes of consumers
  • Experience with businesses facing the challenge of transferring payments / money across borders and the implications of regulation for fast evolving technologies
  • A strong personal commitment to the vision of an open web accessed by billions of users through a wide range of mobile browsing devices

Eligibility

You must be able to attend monthly board meeting plus ad-hoc board meetings around the time of half yearly results. Most board meetings are held in Cambridge, UK or London UK.

Candidates must not be disqualified from becoming a director of a UK public company, nor of becoming a director of a US NASDAQ quoted company, and must be allowed to enter the USA and UK.
