Tips on gaining consumer trust

It's quite clear that lack of consumer trust in mobile services has hit some sectors of this industry. But if you are with Bango, then you can avoid this.

If your service is not a subscription service then our research has shown that it pays to print “No subscriptions – no hidden charges”. Here’s what we found:

Content provider X launched a mobile site offering streamed video shorts at £2.50 each. On the website, that promoted the service, consumers had a choice of two different videos. Video 1 included the wording "No subscriptions - no hidden charges", video 2 didn't. 70% of consumers chose to buy video 1. When the wording was swapped to video 2, within seven days, 70% of consumers were now buying video 2.

Follow The Sun's lead

The Sun newspaper, who uses Bango to power the pay per downloads on Sun Mobile, chooses to print “No subscriptions – No hidden charges” on its ads to reassure consumers it is not a subscription service.

The Sun ad with "No subscriptions"

If you are running a subscription service, make sure you follow the ICSTIS guidelines and be upfront about it being a subscription. The problems experienced with subscription services occured because consumers felt misled. If you have any feedback on this or ways in which you successfully drive traffic to your mobile service, do let us know.
