W3C Mobile Web best practicesThe World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has launched guidelines to help internet developers create mobile sites that work well across the wide range of devices available today. If you are building mobile websites then we recommend you build them in compliance with these guidelines - see the W3C Mobile Web Best Practicies 1.0 for details. Bango believes in the promotion of a single URL that provides a consistent brand communication and works on all devices - something easy to remember that can be passed between users (by email, text message and so on). This should use existing domain names that are available today. We also believe in the creation of a "brand" or "logo" that can be placed next to a URL to clearly indicate "this works on a mobile" - this is underway at W3C. RecommendationsWith the launch of the W3C Mobile Web best practices and the recent .mobi domain, we thought we would share Bango's recommendations for content providers:
Mobile is not a niche; it is the internet. Strengthen your brand by extending your existing web strategy onto mobile and engaging with consumers on this unique medium. Initiatives like the W3C Mobile Web Initiative insure that dot com, dot org and dot co.uk domains render the correct site for both mobile and PC. Regards, The Marketing Team at Bango |
