Important changes by Vodafone to the Premium Rate Code of Practice
These changes affect content providers using premium SMS to collect
payments
Vodafone have announced today that from 2nd June 2008 mandatory
Payforit compliance MUST be in place for ALL browse and buy services. This
requirement covers all services accessible though the internet from mobile
devices where payments are collected through the consumer's Vodafone bill.
Vodafone have listed, as examples, a number of "charge to bill" mobile
web scenarios that must now have a payment flow that is compliant with
Payforit rules. These scenarios include:
- Service discovery via a mobile search engine
- Service discovery via a link on a mobile portal including all
sponsored and advertising links
- Short code discovery for your homepage.
- Direct discovery by consumer, e.g. site URL entered in handset or
from bookmark.
- Short code discovery for a specific item or service*.
- A consumer continues browsing after accessing/paying for service via
PSMS (in example above) and buys more content.
(*Where the consumer has provided their MSISDN by MO SMS, Payment
Intermediaries may utilise Vodafone's direct microbilling Payforit
interface instead of MT SMS for payment collection, without needing to
present Payforit checkout screens)
Provided that your site uses
Bango standard payment services, your site will automatically be in
compliance with these rules.
If you are using any other methods to
collect payments, for example sending premium text messages, you will not
be compliant, and your service will be blocked.
