Strong commercial gains from opening up the mobile web in 2007

Looking back over 2007, we have seen strong commercial gains for those operators that moved to open up the mobile web. We have seen traffic grow fastest on networks where steps were taken to encourage more browsing off-portal and to increase payout rates to content providers.

Significantly, we have recorded a six-fold increase in Vodafone UK off-portal content sales.

Key indications we see in operators opening up the mobile web include:

- putting a search box onto the operator portal so people can search for content off-deck

- introducing flat rate data charges to encourage more mobile web browsing

- providing the highest payout rates

Vodafone UK has done all these which has encouraged content providers to target their mobile marketing at subscribers on the Vodafone UK networks as it brings a better return on their marketing investment

As a result of these measures Vodafone UK has risen to first place in the value of off-portal content sales. We detected a 153% increase in browsing on Vodafone UK following the introduction of flat rate data charges in June 2007

This momentum is set to continue into 2008, with Bango leading the way in our drive to open up the mobile web to all.
