Role
At Bango, the Engineering Delivery Manager (EDM) owns the delivery outcomes for one or more engineering teams — ensuring that priorities, plans, and progress are clear, credible, and delivered as committed. This includes building and sustaining highperforming teams, aligning work with business priorities, and maintaining a consistent, trusted delivery narrative across the organisation.The EDM is accountable for engineering deliverables, working in close partnership with Tech Leads (technical authority), Product Management, and other EDMs to ensure delivery is on time, in scope, and to agreed quality.
Responsibilities
- Leads one or more engineering teams, line managing engineers directly and supporting the development of all contributors within their delivery scope.
- Builds team capability by setting clear expectations, providing coaching and feedback, and working with other line managers to recognise contributions, address skill gaps, and develop talent.
- Owns delivery outcomes, ensuring priorities, plans, and progress are clear, credible, and delivered as committed — with changes managed transparently and stakeholders able to self-serve up-to-date information.
- Provides “air cover” for the team by filtering and prioritising incoming requests, maintaining focus, and surfacing urgent opportunities or risks in a controlled, transparent way.
- Works with Product Management and Tech Leads to align delivery priorities with business objectives, balance scope, time, and quality, and ensure technical decisions remain sustainable and supportable.
- Identifies and manages risks and dependencies across teams, escalating in time for effective resolution and coordinating mitigation strategies with relevant stakeholders.
- Drives continuous improvement in delivery processes, tools, and ways of working, sharing successful practices across EDMs to create consistency and raise performance across engineering.
- Collaborates with other EDMs, Tech Leads, and functional managers to align leadership approaches, share effective practices, and present a consistent leadership voice across engineering.
- Maintains strong cultural stewardship, modelling Bango’s values in leadership and decision-making, and shaping an environment where collaboration, openness, and respectful challenge are part of everyday work.
Essentials
- Proven experience in an engineering leadership role — or clear demonstration of the skills, behaviours, and understanding needed to succeed as an EDM — gained through roles such as Tech Lead, Senior Engineer, or equivalent.
- Ability to lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams, including line management and professional development of engineers — or clear evidence of readiness to take on these responsibilities.
- Proven track record — or strong potential — to deliver complex technical projects to agreed time, scope, and quality, with clear and proactive management of expectations across stakeholders.
- Strong ability to build and maintain alignment across engineering, product, and other business functions, including filtering and prioritising requests to protect delivery focus.
- Proactive in identifying and resolving delivery risks and dependencies before they impact outcomes.
- Sufficient technical literacy to validate approaches, assess trade-offs, and uphold engineering principles — while working in partnership with the Tech Lead as the technical authority.
- Experience — or clear aptitude — for driving continuous improvement in delivery processes, tools, and ways of working, and sharing good practice to raise performance across teams.
- Skilled communicator with the ability to adapt style for different audiences, from engineers to senior stakeholders, and to maintain trust in high-pressure situations.
- Highly organised, with the ability to balance multiple priorities, make evidence-based decisions, and maintain delivery momentum.
- Models organisational values and fosters a collaborative, open, and high-performance culture.
Desirables
- Experience in leading cross-border projects across multiple time zones and different business cultures.
- Understanding of mobile network operator charging APIs and flows.
- Understanding of merchant resale/bundling APIs and flows.
- Flexibility for occasional international travel.
- Background in the Telco or Fintech industry.
- Experience working with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, along with container orchestration or serverless systems.
